This scale is very user friendly...I need to measure and weigh all my food, whether I am at restaurants, traveling, or at catered events. This is a very need, well proportioned scale that does not drive me crazy with too thousands of an ounce. I would highly recommend it. I also believe it measures greater quantities. I needed a scale when I recently had to start home cooking a specially prescribed diet for my dog. The ingredients had to be measured in grams and fractions of a gram. After spending much time researching scales, this one had all the features I was looking for.

The scale is small in size but big enough for me to put a small plastic bowl on the tray for weighing the bulkier ingredients like the chicken or rice. It is accurate, literally right down to a grain of rice or a drop of oil. Because of its compact size it fits right in the cupboard and takes no room at all. It also measures in ounces at the push of a button should I want to do that with something else. I wear glasses for close-up reading; however, the digital numbers on the scale are large enough for me to read minus my glasses with no difficulty. The price is very reasonable and the shipping was fast. One of the soft plastic crescent shaped grippers did come off after I used the scale a couple of times, but I was able to stick it back on.

I highly recommend this Polder Pocket Size Digital Scale.

Very nice design. I'm impressed that although this scale has some fairly sophisticated features, it is still simple to use. You press just one button to get a basic weight measurement. Just another press and you can use the tare feature. Changing units is just a press of a very obvious button. The volume function (a very handy feature) doesn't get in the way of the simpler functions. As a designer myself, I can appreciate the thought that went into this product. I get annoyed when I see a product that is overly complicated and requires a user's manual to do the simplest thing. This produce was designed properly for easy use in the kitchen.

The ability of this scale to weigh by volume was truly a revelation. I enjoy baking and for a long time used a Salter Aquatronic scale -- weighing is truly the way to go! Still, the majority of recipes are written with volume measurements and this has always posed a problem to me. Unless I wrote all my conversions down -- which I did for a few favorite recipes -- I had to pull out all usual measuring gadgetry. This scale changed all that. The absolute most number of bowls I might use is two, but 98% of the time I can get away with just using one. Referencing the included laminated chart, you enter an ingredient's corresponding number, measure it out, hit the tare button and keep going. Usually I'll measure out the dry ingredients first, set them aside on some waxed paper, measure out the wet ingredients, then mix everything together in the same bowl.

Another unexpected bonus was being able to bake much more accurately. I found out one handblown glass measuring beaker I'd been using was unacceptably off. And of course you will have fewer items to wash. This scale's platform lifts off the base for easy cleaning. I didn't bother to get the AC adapter. My old scale used batteries and I only changed them once in 5 years, so I expect this Escali will have similar power usage. I've been using the scale for about a year now and cannot imagine baking without it.

Accurate, easy and practical,

I've had this scale for a couple of years and it still performs perfectly every time I use it. There are several ways it can be used to enhance cooking projects. I particularly like the fact that it can be stored up on edge as I don't have much counter space. I have actually stacked stuff on it when it's turned off and sitting flat and that doesn't seem to bother it, but it seems better to store it vertically so that's what I do.

I use my own receptacle for holding whatever I'm measuring--place the bowl or whatever on the scale and push the on/zero button. Then add what you want to weigh and it will weigh only the addition. If you press the on/zero button again, it will reset to zero so you can add something else and weigh only the new addition.

Having both US and metric measurements is super if you are using a European recipe that gives quantities in grams. I don't have to worry about converting it because the scale does it for me.

One button on the right front is to turn the scale on/zero and one for off. On the left front is a button for dry ingredients and one for liquid measurements. Each will show metric to begin with but will switch to US measure when you push it again.

I got the scale to measure portion size while dieting and found that using it when cooking also helped me calculate the calories in combination dishes. I also use it to get the weight of something I'm planning to put in my convection/microwave, which calculates cooking time or defrost time based on weight. The scale has turned out to be much more useful than I expected.

There is an easily accessible battery compartment on the underside when you need to change the batteries, but so far, I haven't had to. All in all, I am very satisfied with this scale and highly recommend it.

This is one of the most accurate kitchen scales I've used and I've used many, from other companies, over the years. I can always count on Salter brand for accuracy, design and sleekness.

This also weighs your liquids as well as solids, so it's very versatile. I love the all-glass platform which helps keep everything clean and safe. Easy to use buttons and I love being able to add to the bowl without dumping everything to measure each ingredient.

Looks good on the counter too, and doesn't take up too much room. Lasts a long time.

Needed something to replace the spring type scale we brought from Germany.

This one fit the bill perfectly. You can set the default starting measure scale to Grams or ozs with a slid switch on the bottom. It is very sensitive but will also take plenty of weight. The zero features are great and you can measure anything, liquid or solid. Just zero the scale with the measuring device, cup, glass or bucket in place and add the item to be measured to it. Spot on.

Looks good too. Not sure how long the batteries will last, need to uses it and see but they are very easy to get at if needed. It will turn itself off if you forget.

Overall, we are very pleased, a nice addition to the Kitchen.

I purchased this scale to help with portion and calorie control. The scale works just fine. It is excellent in both modes, normal and calculate. It operates fine, without any problems. For a couple of negatives -- 1) it is a bit hard to read on the bottom line of the display and 2) if you are not fast enough, it will shut off while you are still weighing. You have to touch the key pad often enough to prevent it. But these are extremely minor. I am very happy with the scale. It also looks great.

I'm sure there are many uses for this scale. I used it to further assess my calorie consumption- before buying this scale, I just used a subjective method of how "full" I felt and guesstimated my calorie intake. To get below 8 or 10% body fat (for males) I found that I needed to "dial in" on my caloric intake. ENTER the EatSmart Nutrition Scale- It weighs my food- and with a quick glance in my log book, I press in my food's number and BAM!- nutrition info including calories, carbs, fat, fiber etc. Also, with the tare function, you can add more than one ingredient and know exactly how many calories, carbs, etc. you have added. The EatSmart Scale is easy to operate, has a reasonable price, and looks pretty good too. Yes- you COULD use a regular scale and search a Calorie King calorie book, but this scale makes it so easy and quick you won't want to! If you're wanting to count your calories quickly and easily- you can rely on the EatSmart.

All I can say is:"WOW!"
First off,I am a very healthy 59 year old surfer guy living here at the beach in Southern California and purchasing the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale is probably the smartest move I have made in a very long time. The Perfect Kitchen Scale,

In my opinion, this is the perfect kitchen scale. You get the sense that an actual cook was involved in its design.

First off, and I guess most important, it's dead on accurate and can weigh items up to 11 pounds, in 1/8-ounce and 1-gram increments. Instead of displaying weight in decimal notation, which can be confusing to the average cook, it reads out in fractions. For example, instead of displaying 4.375 ounces, it displays 4-3/8 ounces. Like I said, it seems like an actual cook was involved in the design, rather than a room full of engineers (nothing against engineers, that's how I make a living)! If you prefer kilograms instead of pounds and ounces, it has a button that allows you to switch back and forth.

With large numbers and a bright blue backlight, it's easy to read in all conditions. To make it even easier to read when weighing items that extend over the base, you can detach the display and move it up to 4 inches from the scale. This means you can weigh items up to 16 inches in diameter and still clearly see the display.

It also has a tare weight function, which allows you to place an empty container on the scale and hit the tare button to reset the display to zero. This is very handy when adding ingredients to a bowl. For example, suppose you're making a recipe that calls for a cup of flour and cup of milk. You put your mixing bowl on the scale, press the tare weight button, which resets the display to zero and then add 5 ounces of flour. Press the tare weight button again and add 8 ounces of milk. No measuring cups to clean and no worrying about how tightly you packed the flour in the cup. Once you get used to measuring ingredients by weight, instead of volume, you'll never go back. It's accurate, fast and easy.

After several months of frequent almost daily use, the Oxo scale has performed flawlessly. If something were to happen to it, I'd immediately order a new one.

1. Backlight - I didn't think I would use this but I have several times.

2. Smooth buttons - easy to clean.

3. The weighing plate comes off, so it's easy to clean too.

4. It remembers the weight even when it turns off. I used to compulsively press on the bowl or whatever was on my old scale, to keep the scale active to make sure it didn't turn off. No more!

5. On/Off button. This isn't why I bought it by any means, but it is nice when I'm just weighing one thing really quickly, and I don't have to drain the battery life waiting for it to turn off automatically.

6. Pretty high capacity - some food scales only hold 5 pounds or so. I often use mine to get equal servings out of a big pot of soup, for example. With this scale I can put the whole pot on there, subtract the weight of the pot, and then easily ladle out equal portions.

7. This is the reason I bought this scale, only to discover several other great features. With my old scale, weighing a plate or a big pot was really difficult, because the big size of it covered the display. I had to crouch down and use a flashlight to try to see what the weight was. This feature totally solves that problem.

Excellent Kitchen Food Scale, great size that doesn't take up much counter space, fits in with the decor, and so easy to clean. My husband liked the fact that you can put a bowl on the scale before turning it on and it comes up 0 when turned on, you then add your food to the bowl or plate. We buy Boars Black Forest ham from the deli for lunch meat so guessing how many oz's=slices or an oz of cheese was always a hit and miss. Being able to detach the reading mechanism is helpful too, but we hardly ever detach it as it's set in a well lit place that's easy to read.

After looking around for different kitchen scales I thought I'd go with this one since it looked the same as other brands ( but not as expensive#. I've been using this scale almost daily for a few days now and there isnt anything negative to say about it, but here are the pros:

1 - Its super easy to clean becuase of its chrome coating # you can easily wipe most things off with a rag )
2 - Its consistent- a nickle weighs exactly 5 grams and this scale gets in on the dot every time.
3 - Its a bargain compared to other scales around this caliber
4 - And its easy to use. Even the tare function.

I purchased this scale mainly because it was such a bargain. I wasnt expecting much out of it, but it definately was alot better than I had expected! I use scales for cooking because my son requires a special diet and I must admit I was surprised by the quality of this scale. I would prefer to write this review after some time has passed, but I want to make sure I get my thoughts out here early on.

This is my third kitchen scale. I bake all my own bread at home and good baking requires weighing the ingredients rather than volume measuring.

This scale feels very light which made me nervous at first, but I've used it for three weeks now, through a lot of baking over the holidays, and my concerns seem out of line.

This scale fits all my needs. Here is what I look for:

1. CAPACITY - AT LEAST 10 LB (this has 11 lb, or 5 kg). This is required to be able to tare out a glass bowl which can weigh near 5 lbs empty. 11 lb is still borderline when I'm making bread in a 6 qt kitchenaid bowl, but I just weigh ingredients separately in another bowl if it becomes a problem.

2. PRECISION - DOWN TO 1 GRAM - Another scale I have was only good to 5 grams and, although this was probably good enough, it drove me nuts not to be able to go down to 1 gram

3. STABLE PLATFORM FOR VESSELS -- My previous scale had a platform that sat on top of a pillar and eventually came detached. After that it was a balancing act to weight anything

4. ORDINARY BATTERIES -- I liked my old scales fine, but it drove me crazy that I had to keep buying overpriced CR2032 batteries for the things. These batteries don't last long and cost too much to replace. I can't figure out why they use these "button batteries" rather than the more common higher capacity AAA, AA, C, D, etc cells. It's not like these scales are micro-sized. In any event A BIG BIG PLUS for this scale is that it uses standard batteries! Don't sell this point short.

5. PRICE -- $50, $30, $70 for a scale to do this is crazy. the circuitry in these things is cheap. It's not rocket science. All these scales that have "features" are a waste of money. This scale does what needs to be done for $20.

6. FEATURES -- Zero the scale, read negative numbers, switch between metric and English weights, tare a bowl....that's it...that's all you need. All the rest of it is a waste of money and a further chance for failure. this does what is needed and no more.

7. EASY TO READ -- big numbers. this scale is good....Not so good about this scale (and the ONLY problem I have so far) is that big bowls tend to cover the read out a little and make it hard to pick up the weight. So far it hasn't been a big deal, but it can be a slight annoyance.

BOTTOM LINE:

This scale gets 100% on items 1-6 and about 50% on item 7 for a 93% grade overall...enough for me to give it 5 out of 5 stars.

The only remaining unrated item is DURABILITY....I'll report back in a year. My old, $50 scale only lasted 3.5 years. I'm betting this one goes at least that long...plus I won't be forking over for new button batteries every month and a half.

So let me start this review by saying I think this is the perfect scale for any home chef. I have been impressed by the features that this scale has versus ones I have had in the past, especially at this price point. And as both a home chef and diabetic, I have been weighing my food fairly continually for almost 20 years and gone through my fair share of scales.

The big benefits in my mind:
1) Capacity - The scale weighs up to 11 lbs, which for a unit this size is already impressive. What really got me was the accuracy of the scale at high weights when i had a full bowl of ingredients on there. This is where my last Salter scale was very weak, and that one only went to 6 lbs.
2) Rubber Feet - On a plastic scale I cannot under state how important this one is to me. My old scale slid across my granite counter top and I lost more than one recipe to accidental spillage. Simple thing but invaluable.
3) Unit Button - The button to switch measurements is ON TOP of the scale. Prior scale I have owned had a little button underneath the scale. There was nothing more infuriating than having food on the scale and having to turn it over to switch measurement units.

The LCD display on the scale is also nicely angled so its crisp and easy to read when you stand over a counter. Compact and easy to clean. Wouldn't even think about buying another scale brand again. A+

The EatSmart Scale looks and works great. We got the red one, and it looks so good on our counter we leave it out. This also makes it more convenient to use then if you put it away after each use. With the included book of calorie multipliers, we use to effectively count our calorie intake. In the short time we've had it, I've alreay been able to tighten my belt a couple of holes. The scale is very accurrate and I like the option of weight in grams or American standard pounds and oz.

If you've been waiting to buy a scale, wait no longer. This is a bang-for-the-buck product that you will use every day!
